The Downfalls of the Democratic Party

Coming from someone as radically left-wing as me, it may seem surprising to hear that I believe that the Republican party is not the sole issue with the government. Historically, we see many downfalls with the democratic party. Downfalls that, in my opinion, show the true hypocrisy of the American people. The American liberal beliefs, for the most part, are seen by the lens of the world as a whole as right-wing. Democrats constantly work against immigration, socialist economic policies, and freedoms of a generation. Do I think that there are infinitely more issues with the Republican party? Absolutely, however, unlike radical right-wing Americans, I find it important to look at the downfalls of my party and speak out for and work towards what I believe in.

In my opinion, there have been 2 presidents in the history of our country that have had the radical beliefs of their party in mind so much that they were able to make changes for better or worse more radically, rapidly, and successfully than any other president in our history. The first, who used his power for the betterment of all American citizens, was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He was not afraid to be radically socialist. This allowed him to make many changes for the good of our country that are still in use to this day. The second, who used his power to obtain more power to force America to think the way he thinks and reduce rights of anyone else, is Donald Trump.

A lot of the modern democratic party in America is majorly hypocritical. If we are going to be a party that craves such radical empathy, equality, and freedom, we have to stay true to these beliefs with who we choose to represent our party. We constantly choose people like Joe Biden, who has a history of racist beliefs, centrist ideals, and economic failures. We choose that over people like Bernie Sanders, who's ideals and beliefs could have sent us decades ahead of any other country and truly, finally, be a free, just, country.

As left-wing individuals we cannot act like the Trumpians who, rather than admit their faults, choose to deny and blame. We have to see where we fail as a party and a country and work to save that. America's ideals have always been more fit for a socialist society Rather than a capitalist one. The only reason that we have only had one socialist president is because of the stigma behind the word socialism. This doesn't mean that we should use a different word, it simply means that democrats, and America as a whole, have to actually attempt to learn about a word rather than simply listen to the stigma around it.

Why is socialism better than America’s capitalism? First of all, you completely eradicate the necessity of competition as a means of survival. In our current economic stature we have individuals working more than one job to barely pay one bill. No amount of growth can excuse making an entire generation work themselves to death just to keep living. A very touching example of someone who literally worked themselves to death in America has stuck with me for years now. Maria Fernandez was working 3 different jobs and just wanted to take a nap between shifts at her job. Instead of being at home in her bed sleeping, Maria was in her car because she needed to get to work. Unfortunately, Maria never woke up and ended up dying of carbon monoxide poisoning tragically because of a nap. Capitalism’s economy causes the working class’ life.

Second, socialism cuts spending entirely for education, healthcare, and other necessities. American capitalism, as it stands, makes sure that these things, not only stay paid for, but also increase in cost. 85% of adults who either dropped out early from, or never attended college say that cost was a major reason. Under socialism we could provide education, and many more institutions, for cheaper.

Democrats try to underrepresent their beliefs to gather more centrists votes for their party, but in the process, they compromise their values. We cannot continue to be a party of people that follow blindly into what everyone else is saying, at that point we are barely better than the people that we despise. Our views on the economy, immigration, abortion, and transgender rights have, more often than not, proved to be represented by a more centrist approach than we care to admit. If we have any dream to overtake the raging Republican party in this country, we cannot simply compromise on our beliefs. We have to stay true. We have to stay radical. And we have to stay liberal.
