The Trump Regime’s Similarities to Hitler’s
Fascism is a very scary topic, and one that is, thankfully, taught in American schools. We don’t learn about fascism because it could never happen in our country. We learn about fascism because of how easily it can happen anywhere at any time: and right now, it is happening in the United States of America.
To begin I would like to point out that pre-Hitler Germany was very similar to pre-Trump America. In both cases, we see a country begin to have leftist freedom and true diversity. Germany was known for being kind to its homosexual citizens, as well as welcoming in anyone from any nation. America was, of course, even more radically free, not quite as much with immigration, however with other aspects that Germany didn’t have. Both Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump created their following in the early days by garnering hatred for these free communities and saying that they threatened the ideals of the nation.
Hitler’s rise to tyrannical status came from a few different points; propaganda, censorship, and threats. We see Trump emitting some of the same signs early into his second and even some from his first term that Hitler also gave off. This includes propaganda against immigrants, with threats to stop and even detain individuals who attempt it, propaganda about all of the diverse communities of America, and even propaganda on why his opponents are unfit to be Americans. Hitler used his propaganda against immigrants, diverse communities, and his opposition.
Trump also attempts to censor many left-leaning news sources. Not only has he called the opposition’s news “Fake News” for years, but in the start of his second term has already began attempting to incite unconstitutional legal approaches to get rid of these “Fake News” outlets. Hitler, very quickly I might add, took over or eradicated many newspapers that didn’t teach his ideals, opposed his beliefs, or even told a joke about him.
We also see Trump using threats of violence to get his way. Whether this is direct threats of violence to specific people or nations, or indirect threats that he uses to incite violence from other entities, such as in ICE raids, rallies, the capitol insurrection, etc. Hitler also, obviously, used threats that later turned into promises to get his way in Nazi Germany. This means that every Trump threat that we see come out of his mouth actually has a danger to become true, which is terrifying.
Finally, I want to talk about the obvious inspiration that Donald Trump gets from Hitler’s regime. First of all, while talking about immigrants in one of his speeches pre-election, he uses a direct quote from Mein Kampf, saying that the immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country.” We know that Trump owns a copy of Mein Kampf, he admitted to that, however he claims that he has not read it. Furthermore, Trump’s ex-wife, Ivana, claims that Trump left Hitler speeches BESIDE HIS BED. Of course, we also have the raging neo-nazi figure of Elon Musk in a position of power, who had the balls to do a literal Nazi salute in front of the eyes of an entire nation.
To sum up this article, I want to talk about a famous bit from the American version of The Office. Jim gave Dwight advice for a big speech based on famous speeches made by dictators. He also literally gives him some talking points that were said by Mussolini. He did this as a prank to make Dwight embarrass himself in front of a crowd of people. Ironically, Dwight’s big speech is a massive success, making the entire crowd cheer and lift him up for his speech. This is what’s happening in America right now. One massive fascist joke that actually is starting to work.
