Sarah Inama

A lot of people will probably say, “oh this stuff is all in theory, nothing like that Is actually happening” in regards to all of the terrible things that have happened under the Trump campaign. However, it IS happening. Already, in the less than half year of his presidency, we have begun to see radical fascist actions be taken on the citizens of our country. What made me want to create this website was a bit of news that I saw from Idaho.

Sarah Inama had been a teacher in Idaho for a while. Her classroom always had a couple of posters. One which was typed in rainbow lettering with the text “In this classroom, everyone is welcome, important, accepted, respected, encouraged, valued, equal.” The other said “Everyone is welcome here” with hands of various skin tones in the shape of hearts.

That sounds like the kind of classroom I'd want to be in. One where no matter who you are, whether you are far left or far right, gay or straight, black or white, etc. is welcome. Apparently, however, that's not the kind of classroom the school system wanted. Ms. Inama was told to take the posters down. After refusing, she was fired. The reason for the firing was that the posters were, and I quote, “not content neutral and conducive to a positive learning environment”, “In today's political climate, they're considered a personal opinion”, and “Everyone is welcome here is not something that everyone believes”.

How can “everyone is welcome here” be seen as an opinion? When a teacher has a class of students, the law states that they are taking a temporary guardianship over them while They are in the teacher's classroom. The teacher is in charge of the classroom. By being in charge of the classroom, that teacher also makes the classroom rules. It is not the teacher's opinion that everyone is welcome in her classroom. It is the teacher's rule that everyone is welcome in her classroom. That's not something that kids can just disagree with. It's not an opinion, it's a fact. So by forcing her to either leave the school or take down the posters, the school system is not making a decision because of a breach of policy, they are forcing an agenda. Anyone who will not play along with their beliefs and their ideals, that being the ideals and beliefs of the Trump administration, they can't teach there.

What does this mean, though? It means that there are now people teaching our kids that are forced to teach the way Trump wants them to teach. It means that a whole generation of students will be brainwashed. This is happening everywhere. Not just in schools. Not just in Idaho. All across the United States. Where else in history do we see a string of propaganda be forced into the minds of a whole country, causing different minority groups to be ousted? Nazi Germany. We can no longer turn a blind eye to what is happening in our country. The Germans in the 1900s were easier to brainwash because they didn't have the resources that we have today. Today, we can see the similarities between Trump and Hitler and, though it may not be easy, use our voices to fight against that happening to us.

It isn't a theory that our country is run by Nazis, it's a fact. Trump used the term Reich in a now deleted video. Musk did a Nazi salute in front of the whole country. The similarities between these two regimes are too many to discuss. For more information on the similarities between the two, view my future article about this very topic.
