How to Embrace Pride Month in 2025
I’m imagining that if you are reading this, you are either part of or an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community. Thus, you also know that this month is pride month. The Trump campaign has already shut down many scheduled pride events across the United States. So, how can we navigate and embrace pride in 2025?
There is a lot of insecurities and fears surrounding this community’s relationship with our current government. I, myself, am anxious about my rights of marriage to stay. Trans individuals are not getting access to their needed hormone replacement medicines, surgeries, or advising, and suicide and hate crime rates for all individuals in the community are increasing steadily over the course of Trump’s campaign. In such a time of fear, it feels wrong to celebrate pride, right? No, not right. Now, more than ever, the pride that we have in our individuality as citizens of this country needs to be entirely embraced. Without this pride, any attacks on the peoples of our nation are quite easily sent out. It is with silence that hatred can fester.
Pride month, and its festivals, parades, and celebrations, need to be our focus this month. It is through these celebrations that we can not only keep our dignity in tact, but also protest any attempts to break our pride. In today’s political climate, it is more important than ever to remain true to our individuality. Celebrate loudly, raise your voices high, and embrace your pride this month, now more than ever. Don’t let fear keep you from yourself. It is as a people that we can overcome tyranny.
